Our Story
Based in the Philadelphia region, IUP was created to help independent insurance brokers, consultants, HR managers and third-party administrators develop a new approach to managing health care benefits by reducing costs and enhancing the employee benefit program relationship.
Founded by Nicholas Christos Jr., the company leverages its experience and carrier network to support the delivery of intelligent, cost-effective health insurance solutions.
Possessing more than 20 years of sales and business development experience in the employee benefits marketplace, Nick brings extensive industry knowledge to IUP as its CEO. Beginning his career at Elite Brokerage Services Inc. (now a division of Houston International Insurance Group) after graduating from Boston University with a degree in business and political science, Nick built a substantial distribution network for large group stop loss products with key brokerage firms across the country. During his tenure, Elite became one of the largest privately held managing general underwriters in the country.
Later, Nick joined Reliance Standard Life Insurance Company as the medical stop loss practice leader. He helped build a profitable vertical that currently has an excess of $60 million in annual premium. Shortly after Nick started its stop loss vertical, RSLI was sold to the Tokio Marine Group. Tokio Marine would go on to purchase HCC Life Insurance Company and now manages in excess of $1 billion in stop loss premium.
Nick’s extensive industry experience and relationships position IUP as a strong leader in delivering diverse consultancy services for optimized benefit platforms and enhanced business growth.
